Swimming First - Frog stroke

My easy workout right now is swimming in the pool once a week. The guy next to me was doing the frog-stroke back and forth. I had tried it last time I was regularly swimming some years ago, without success. Back then I was very dedicated at swimming, trying to go as fast as possible, timing intervals and so forth. Now, I see the benefit of a relaxing workout. Watching him I got ganas to try it. My first attempt went well, I went out about 25 m and returned. My upper back felt a little spasmy, the muscles tightening up under the unfamiliar strain.

At the end of the workout I decided to go for a whole pool length. I started at the deep end, so if I run into trouble at the end I would be in shallow water. I did it!

This reminds me of the time I first swam the front crawl. I had tried numerous times but always stalled out after the push off the wall and sank. Then after some time away, when I had spent a lot of time in the weight room, I just did it, first time, no special effort. I think the particular lift that made the difference was the front squat, and in particularly the ab strength that I developed.

I'm coming out of a long running lifting program where I did the same key lifts week after week, month after month, and I'm thinking lots of mixing is probably better for me. Westside, except even more change because I don't have the big three focus - just for fun, and general fitness. More on this anon.
